Day 125: Farewell to Stage 6 trekkers and farewell to our last 5000m pass crossing

Posted on 29 Jun 2017

Tuesday morning saw us all depart from Ringmo down a step descent to he main valley whilst stopping at appropriate points to marvel at the scale of the waterfalls on the outlet river from Poksumdo Lake.

A little further down the main valley by a small wooden bridge we had to split the group between those departing on Stage 6 (Brian, Adrienne, Phaedra and Naomi) and the remaining four carrying on to the end of Stage 7.

After hugs, handshakes and waves we four made our way across the bridge and up the track along the Pungma Kola valley in warm sunshine. A couple of hours after a lunch by the river and passing through a couple of small Tibetan villages, we arrived at our campsite on a Kharka.

As soon as we started to pitch camp it decided to rain, stopping shortly after work was completed, but returning overnight.

Kagmara Base CampThe next morning saw the valley shrouded in mist and we progressed up the valley past waterfalls and eventually passed the treeline where the valley widened and we pitched camp from which we would ascend the Kagmara La Pass the following morning.

Overnight it rained again but cleared in the morning as we were leaving camp. We had a 500m climb to the the pass that began with a steady walk up the valley, then an "interesting" crossing of several streams before the main climb to the pass.

After a couple of hours the high point of the pass was reached with some elation that this was the final 5,000m+ pass of the GHT.

After many photographs in the fine morning sunshine we began the descent down loose rocky paths to a riverside lunch stop then on to our overnight camp on lush green grass with views of waterfalls to one side and mountain tops/glaciers to the other.

We should also mention that the pic at the top is of Urea riding a horse because of her ankle problem. She is feeling much better now!
